The Eastport Gallery Opens for the 2012 Season

by David Therot

The Eastport Gallery opens its 26th season on June 9th with a roster of 30 artists. Included this year are Dominic Noe of Eastport and Sharon Mack of Machias, whose work was accepted from among six applicants juried by the membership at the May meeting.

Eastport’s Arthur Cadieux will present the first of this year’s one-person shows beginning June 9th and continuing until June 25th. Beth Seilonen, Ann Rosebrooks, Gary Guisinger, JoAnne Houlsen, Sherry Ashby Cunningham, and Dan Butler will follow with individual presentations throughout the season.

In addition to the members’ one-person shows, the public is invited to submit work for the Open Show beginning July 21st. Everyone who participates is asked to bring work in any medium based on the theme “creatures” to the Gallery on July 18th. All work should be ready to hang.

“Gallery Talks at Noon” will continue its third season at the Gallery on Wednesdays at intervals throughout the season. Among this year’s speakers will be David Orrell, Renata Caraballo, and Elizabeth Ostrander. The talks have become a very popular feature of the Gallery’s schedule and are open to the public without charge.

The opening and mid-season receptions are scheduled for June 23rd and August 14th each beginning at 5:00 PM. Everyone is invited to celebrate with the artists and to view the season’s new work.

The final reception will be held on September 1st after the “Paint Eastport Day” auction. Everyone is invited to exhibit work in any medium that is completed on that day and submitted before 3:00 PM. Each finished work will be hung for the silent auction that begins at 4:30 PM at the Eastport Art Center.

The Eastport Gallery cordially invites everyone to visit the Gallery to view members’ work, submissions from the public, and to hear the “Talks at Noon.”
