Contemporary folk artist Ann C. Rosebrooks will open a show at the Eastport Gallery on July 9th until July 21st. Rosebrooks, a resident of North Grosvenordale, Connecticut, and Cutler, Maine, has been a Gallery member for several years and also a member of Lubec Arts Alive. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design she has garnered many awards for her paintings including best painting in the Arts Worcester Biennial and the Dorothy L. Irish Award for works on canvas from the Salmagundi Club in New York City. She has been selected for artist – in – residence programs in Woodstock, Connecticut and Ubud, Bali.
Rosebrooks’ work is imaginative, colorful, and very much Maine inspired. When describing her paintings Ann offers, “I paint from memory and often add imaginative details, fantasy, and humor to the mix.” The narrative of her work is left to the viewer to interpret and is derived often from the landscapes and people of Maine.
“My work is a direct correlation to my life experience. I take an event or a place and fantasize on it to suit my artistic vision,” explains Rosebrooks. Social scenes, interiors, and landscapes are rendered with heightened color and patterning giving the canvases a very much contemporary look and feel and showcasing the artist’s unique way of seeing.
There will be an opening reception at the Eastport Gallery on July 12th from 4 -7 PM to which the public is invited.
